When designing make-up looks, it is important to at least have an idea of who will be wearing the make-up, if not already having a model chosen. When factoring in prosthetics, having a model already picked out can be crucial as some prosthetics, such as facial pieces, need to be made to certain sizes, if not the exact measurements of the model.

Model choice is also important because not every make-up look or design is going to suit every person, as everyone has their own individual characteristics and look. Therefore it is important to pick a model that will suit the make-up and overall image that is being designed.

For example, Image One is based on a demon. For this, the designer wanted to show this character as a strong and powerful individual. The idea in mind was that they would be tall and quite muscular. Luckily the designer already knew someone who would fit this brief quite well.

Josh photographs very well, he is comfortable in front of the camera and he fits the desired brief, therefore he has been chosen as the model for Image One as the demon character.

For Image Two, the designer was looking for someone who would suit a nature-based brief. A nature theme could suit most people, as people are products of nature. The artist thought that if the model already had an interest in nature, liked being surrounded by it and involved in it, that could really help to sell the image. Again, the perfect model choice was already known.

Lucy, like Josh, photographs very well, is comfortable in front of the camera and really suits the theme. She enjoys going for walks in nature and cares for a variety of different plants, and the designer believes that having that added interest may show through in the image.
